FAQs

IPL - Hair Removal

Q. Why choose IPL?

A. The old fashioned ways of removing hair /shaving, tweezing, creams and waxing are time consuming and are a temporary measure.  Now you can obtain long lasting results with IPL hair removal treatments.

Q. How does the treatment work?

A. Hair contains pigment (melanin) which absorbs the red light projected by the “harmony” system.
Each pulse of light causes the temperature within the hair shaft and hair follicle to rise, destroying the follicle and rendering it, unable to produce new hair.
The most effective time for the treatment is when the hair is in the active growing stage, or “anagen” phase.  Anagen hair contains the most melanin and is better at absorbing the light energy then hair in the resting (catagen) or shedding (telegen) stage.

Q. Is the treatment suitable for everyone?

A. The best results are seen when there is a good contrast between the hair colour and skin colour, making black hair in pale skin an ideal combination to treat.  Blonde, red or grey hair is seen to respond less well to treatment and it may therefore be necessary to recommend an alterative treatment.  Clients with a suntan should not be treated until the tan has faded.

Q. How many treatments are required?

A. On average 6-8 treatments at 4-8 weeks intervals so that the treatment targets the hair follicles throughout the growth cycle.  The hair growth cycle does however vary in different areas of the body and is often affected by ethnic origin, age and hormones.  Thus, the length of treatment required is dependant upon these factors as each individual responds differently to treatment.

Q. Is it possible to treat all areas of the body?

A. If the hair and skin type is suitable most area of the body can be treated.  Some of the most common area for the treatment are the legs, back, underarms, bikini area, chest, abdomen, chin, top lip and beard areas.

IPL - Red Vein Clearance

Q. Why choose IPL?

A. An advanced non-evasive treatment to clear thread, spider, facial and broken veins.  The IPL system eliminates these unsightly blemishes without injections or surgery.

Q.  How does the treatment work?

A. The energy from the intense pulse light coagulates the blood in the vein, causing it to becomes redundant and eventually disappears.

Q. How many treatments required?

A. The duration and number of treatments varies depending on the area to be covered and type of lesions requiring treatment.  Therefore a treatment plan is developed with your IPL specialist.

IPL - Acne Reduction

Q.  Why choose IPL?

A.  Acne  has left millions of people with both physical and emotional scars.  The IPL system works on treating active acne,  the biggest breakthrough in the treatment of Acne in 20 years.

Q.  How does this treatment work?

A. A blue light is used to destroy the bacteria p acnes  (propioba cterium).  This bacteria  colonises the sebaceous gland and blocks it causing acne.  IPL irradiates the bacteria and gently heats  up the skin around the spots, producing collagen that boosts the healing  process.  This acts as a new foundation  for the skin, reducing scarring and improving skin tone.

Q.  How many treatments are needed?

A. We recommend 2 treatments per week, over  a month period, following this, we suggest clients have “top up”  treatments.  However a treatment plan  will be devised by your IPL specialist.

A. The IPL is ideal for gently and effectively treating prematurely aged and sun damaged skin. A combination of green and yellow light smoothes away fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin looking younger and fresher.

Q. How does it work?

A. Fibroblasts in the dermis cause thermal damage, which in turn, results in the tightening of the collagen structure and  subsequently firmer skin.

Q. How many treatments are needed?

A. We recommend 3-7 treatments at 3-4 week  intervals. The whole face is normally treated as this will give more aesthetically pleasing overall result.
